Educating the 21st Century Workforce has gone international! Dr. Michael Burke presented the topic of educating and preparing the workforce for tomorrow in Lucerne, Switzerland and also in Rome, Italy on October 20-21, 2009. His talk included our very hands-on approach to learning, the high tech lab facility, and our outreach efforts across the states of North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota.  

Other Exciting News!
The GUESS project has been funded! GUESS stands for Girls Understanding and Exploring Stem Science - the science that keeps girls guessing! This project is part of an initiative to expose girls to different aspects of science by holding mini day camps run by other women scientists. Watch for more information and details. 

Alternative Energy Outreach!
Our outreach efforts for alternative energy are well underway! We are visiting schools, preparing kits, and holding mini day camps at the lab. We cover topics such as wind, solar, hydrogen, and even algae. Yes, you read that right - algae! It is the way of the future! Call or email Carrie to schedule a visit.

Biotechnology and Microelectronics Technology Began Fall 2009
NDSCS launched two new programs, Biotechnology and Microelectronics Technology. Biotechnology refers to the use of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment. Biotechnology program will train individuals in the basic sciences and laboratory instrumentation utilized by this industry segment in the development and manufacturing of a variety of different products. Microelectronics is related to the study and manufacture of electronic components that are very small. The Microelectronics Technology program will train individuals in the basic science and engineering involved with manufacturing of microelectronic sensing and communication devices such as RFIDs, integrated circuits and chips. Academies coming June 2010!
Based upon the success of the previous year’s academies, we will hosting our 3rd annual student Nanotechnology Academythis June. If you are interested in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) and you like hands-on, then this academy is perfect for you!  Be prepared to get involved and see nanoscience inaction. Teachers are not excluded from the fun, with your own special session. Read more 

2st Annual Emerging Technologies Academy for Educators
Attention Teachers!  Coming June 2010, we will be offering our 2nd annual emerging technology academy just for teachers! It will include an offering of Nanoscience, Bio-fuels, Microelectronics and Biotechnology.  Gain some background information about these emerging technologies with hands-on experience during this two-day session.  Credit and stipends will be made available. Dual-Credit Courses Offered to H.S. Students
North Dakota high school students have the opportunity to take some high-tech classes for both high school and college credit.  Nanoscience (NANO 101/102) and Alternative Energies (BIOF 101/102) are buzz words frequenting the media.  Take a look at these 100% on-line courses and find out what these emerging technologies offer our society.
